Quick answers.

• Is there a free alternative to Hermes Voice?

Yes. Handy (free MIT open-source, Mac/Windows/Linux, Whisper and Parakeet TDT v3, no word cap), Wave (free open-source, macOS 14+, local whisper.cpp, no account), and Ghost Pepper (free MIT, Apple Silicon Mac, WhisperKit + local Qwen, no word cap) are all free with no recurring cost and no word cap.

• Is there a Hermes Voice alternative for Windows?

Hermes Voice is Mac only. Superwhisper (local Whisper, free tier + $8.49/mo or $249 lifetime, macOS, Windows, and iOS), TypeWhisper (free for personal use, macOS and Windows, swappable engines), Typilot ($7.99/mo or $199 lifetime, macOS, Windows, and Linux), and Handy (free MIT, Mac, Windows, and Linux) all offer stable Windows builds.

• Does any Hermes Voice alternative include meeting transcription?

Hermes Voice has no meeting transcription mode. Typilot (on-device mic and system audio capture with speaker-labelled diarization, fully local, $7.99/mo or $199 lifetime) and Ghost Pepper (free, local AI meeting summaries on Apple Silicon Mac) both add on-device meeting transcription without sending audio to a server.

• Is the $150 Hermes Voice lifetime deal worth it?

For Mac-only use, it is a fair price for polished offline dictation with the Triggers voice-automation system and filler-word removal. If you also need Windows or Linux, Typilot's $199 lifetime covers all three platforms. For a free option, Handy (open-source, all platforms) and Ghost Pepper (Apple Silicon Mac) have no price at all.
